hey friends!

We want to invite you along on an exciting new journey with Often Wander.

It's been a long time coming, but we've wanted so badly to share with you on a more intimate level what moves us, who inspires us, what products we cant live without, the photos from our epic travels, the people we meet, and the photoshoots we have.

Starting now, you'll be able to geek out on the gorgeous photos and findings from our latest adventures just as much as we do. AND, through this monthly newsletter, "words from the wanderers", we're going to highlight a few of our very favorite artists/makers/friends who inspire us and hopefully inspire you as well!

We'll share travel recaps, what we're working on, and what we're currently obsessed with. Sometimes it's a product, or a song, or a hidden treasure trove, or the latest Netflix binge, but we're obsessed and think you might be, too.

Designed to be a place of inspiration, motivation, and a juicy little digital digestion full of spirit and optimism, here's your ticket to more laughs, maybe tears (who knows), and at the very least, beautiful images and tidbits that will hopefully bring some love to your heart and your eyeballs.

Even better, we want to give you the opportunity to chime in on the fun! Tell us your thoughts, opinions, suggestions, or questions, and we will give you the scoop. There will be prizes, exclusive discounts, special events, photo opportunities, etc etc etc. Basically - don't miss out!

To kick us off, we'd love if you could take two minutes to complete the survey below so we can better cater this newsletter to peak your ever-growing interests. We'll choose five submissions to receive a FREE Peace candle (our latest & greatest scent featured below - seriously, you'll be obsessed!), and include the winners in our next newsletter :)

Q&A FEATURING @REBECCAEICHTEN
THE BRILLIANT BRAIN BEHIND REBECCA EICHTEN ART + DESIGN

Rebecca has been a very important part of the Often Wander "girl gang" as our first graphic designer but more importantly as a true soul sister / kindred spirit type of friendship with Sarah.

"Rebecca and I started working together in the summer of 2015 after she had responded to an internship position. It was definitely a divine intervention moment as we were truly meant to cross each others paths. Rebecca was working a full time job but was trying to make moves to be her own boss, and pursue her art. Not long after we started working together we shared a studio space in Barrio Logan where I made candles and she painted. Now she's a full time entrepreneur / artist doing a little bit of everything all over San Diego and totally crushing it. I could not be more proud or grateful for her." -Sarah

Where does your mind wander to often?

Traveling. I find a lot of my inspiration when I travel to new places. I love experiencing the different cultures, foods, colors, nature of a new place.

What advice would you give others pursuing a creative career?

Don't spend your life wondering if you could "make it as an artist" —  be brave and take the leap. Collaborate with other creatives, be honest about needing help and take advice from people that you trust.

Which creative medium would you love to pursue but haven’t yet and why?

I'd love to get into printmaking. I think the process of carving your design, hand painting the plate and and creating a unique and original print every time is so beautiful. Printmaking gives you the ability to produce multiple "original" prints where each one varies slightly in the process.

When was the moment you decided to sell your work and/or start your own business?

A turning point for me was in the summer of 2015 — for one of our displays at Anthropologie, we created an organic and plant-filled display which involved some watercolor paintings I made of some plants (using a set of children’s Crayola watercolor paints!!). Soon enough, customers began asking if they could buy my paintings. I was flattered, and then it dawned on me — making what I love is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

And boom, a little spark that propelled me into the next chapter. In December of 2015, I applied for my very first holiday Maker’s Arcade where I sold my artwork and stationery collection. It was a huge success and also one of the coolest moments of my life — to be able to create something with my hands and make money from it! So, with that, I knew it was time to take the leap — to be brave and willing to do whatever it takes to follow my dreams of being a full-time artist.

If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I Would Die 4 U by Prince

How do you find balance and wind down from a busy work day?

I mainly work by myself at my home studio so by the time my day is over,  try to go outside, get some fresh air and be active. Take a yoga class, play a game of pick-up basketball. I also love meeting up and spending time with friends and family--I definitely gain energy from being around people so after being alone all day it's nice to have some human interaction :).
