Southern California grown White Sage is used for cleansing and for healing.
The smoke is used to bless, cleanse and heal the person or object being smudged.
Sage is used to 'wash off' the outside world when one enters ceremony or other sacred space. Objects are likewise washed off with sage medicine smoke to rid them of unwanted influences.
Simply light one end of the stick until it begins to smoke.
Then you can place the stick in a bowl and/or carry the stick around the space or object in which you wish to cleanse.
Let the smoke waft and fill in empty spaces.
Once you have cleansed the space or object run some water over the stick until the smoke has been extinguished and then leave to dry and reuse.
